Cleveland Indians: Still too early in the season for fans to panic
Some Cleveland Indians fans are ready to give up, but the MLB season is far too long for Indians fans to be too worried in July.
It is currently a weird time to be a Cleveland Indians fan. The team is leading the American League Central division, but some fans are ready to give up and start selling before the trade deadline. Wild, I know.
Opening the second half of the season with a 1-5 trip against two of the worst teams in baseball was not ideal, but it doesn’t mean the Indians are doomed. In fact, that trip may be irrelevant at the end of the season.
I understand why fans are frustrated right now. This team is underachieving and the offense regularly disappears in big spots. But it is a 162-game season and must be treated as such.
Obviously, we cannot see into the future to see if the Indians do turn things around and win the AL Central division. However, labeling the present as the most important part of the season just doesn’t make sense.

The beauty of watching sports is that fans are able to go back and forth with their respective opinions, but no one wants to hear constant doom and gloom. Once the team turns things around, all those negative hot takes don’t age too well.
Some vocal fans agree the team is likely going to win the division, but are doubting the team’s chances in the postseason. Anyone who has watched postseason baseball knows just how open a competition the MLB postseason can be.
Just look to last season when the Indians swept the Boston Red Sox and nearly won it all. Anything can happen in October, the key is just getting there.
So unless the Indians go on a major losing streak and drop out of contention in a weak division, which they won’t, I won’t be panicking. There are still trades to be made and over two months of baseball to be played, making these last six games just a blip on the radar of the 2017 season.
Next: 3 potential trades before the deadline
Baseball is a sport filled with ups and downs, and the Indians just went through a down time. But with all the talent on the team, don’t expect the dismal performances to continue for too long.
