Cleveland Indians Promote Hagadone, Masterson to Miss Start
By Ed Carroll
The Cleveland Indians made a pair of late announcements on Wednesday, promoting LHP Nick Hagadone and optioning RHP Mark Lowe to AAA Columbus, and while also announcing Justin Masterson will not start on Sunday as scheduled:
The Tribe will dip into its vertical depth in the minors after a 14-inning loss in Arizona on Tuesday night, and there’s a chance Hagadone could be used if manager Terry Francona needs to burn some innings, as it’s possible another starter might need to be recalled for Sunday’s start in Seattle. The team has already announced Justin Masterson will start sometime over the July 4th weekend, so for now it appears he will avoid a DL stint, but the tweet does not specify in which of the three games Masterson would start.
