Cleveland Indians Drive In Four In Ninth To Tie Los Angeles Dodgers At 5

Today was reigning American League Cy Young Award winner and Cleveland Indians ace pitcher Corey Kluber‘s Spring Training debut for 2015.  As Kluber starts to get in a comfort zone for the season and hopefully continues his success from last year, he started out by providing a solid outing giving up three hits and one run with a strikeout over three innings versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The game ended in a 5-5 tie.

The game was tied at one heading into the fourth when the Los Angeles Dodgers offense took charge. Yasmani Grandal hit a solo home run and Andre Either scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Adrian Gonzalez knocked in a run on a double and Grandal finished his team’s streak by hitting in a run off the double of his own in the sixth inning.  Four of the five runs were given up by Zach McAllister.

Fortunately, the Indians made it competitive again in the ninth when Ryan Rohlinger and Brett Hayes hit back-to-back home runs. Rohlinger hit a three run home run driving home Destin Hood and Audy Ciriaco. Brett Hayes hit a solo home run tying the game, which ultimately was the final score.

What Stood Out?

Zach McAllister had a disappointing, yet average outing.  He pitched three innings with three strikeouts but he gave up six hits and four runs putting the team in an early hole.  He is going to continue to be a part of a talented pitching staff and I would expect him to be the main long relief option for manager Terry Francona rather than the fifth starter.  His performance could have been way worse and he still could be used as a spot replacement for starts.

Charles Brewer followed McAllister with three strikeouts over two innings of no hit ball.  If he can keep up solid pitching outings, he could be considered more than he is as one of the last options in the bullpen.

The Cleveland Indians are on the road in Spring Training action taking on the Texas Rangers at 4:05 PM.  Left-handed pitcher T.J. House will be starting for the Indians.
