Tribe fall to Royals in Swisher’s return

The Cleveland Indians got back

Nick Swisher

, but it wasn’t enough as the Kansas City Royals were able to get to

Danny Salazar

for four runs in the 5-3 victory. The Tribe struck first on a two-run home run by

Michael Brantley

. But Salazar gave it right back in the bottom half of the inning, allowing a three-run shot to

Eric Hosmer

and the Royals never trailed again.

Lonnie Chisenhall

added a solo home run in the eight, but that would be it for the Tribe.

Swisher did indeed make his return to the lineup, but there would be no big storylines. He went 0-for-4, striking out twice. It’s been nine months since surgery on both his knees–one that was thought to keep him out only 8-10 weeks. But in his defense, the Tribe managed only four hits against the Royals, so he wasn’t alone.

The Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander awaits the results of a third MRI in hopes of returning from a strained triceps injury. Verlander had to cut short a simulated game due to fatigue but is hoping that the results from this MRI will allow him to increase his throwing program. He’s thrown at least 200 innings in each of the last eight seasons.
