Cleveland Indians Homer Multiple Times To Knock Off The Rays

The Cleveland Indians relied on the long ball tonight to defeat Tampa. Three home runs in fact were hit by the team. Starting pitcher Danny Salazar (7-3) pitched a great game while gaining solid run support. Salazar threw 7 2/3 innings while giving up only two hits. Tampa starter Erasmo Ramirez (6-3) had seven strikeouts, while throwing 5 2/3 innings of work.

Key Moments

Third Inning

Second Baseman Jason Kipnis got the scoring going with a solo home run to right field. With a little over two weeks left till the MLB All Star Game, Kipnis continues to do everything he can to showcase why he deserves a spot on the American League All Star Team.

Seventh Inning

Giovanny Urshela, the Third Baseman with an extremely bright future with the team added on insurance runs with his own home run. That homer was a three-run home run and his second of his career thus far. Carlos Santana and Brandon Moss scored on the play as they got on base via a single and walk respectively.

Eighth Inning

Leading 4-0, Michael Brantley hit his 23rd double of the season. Up next was David Murphy where he drove in Brantley as he hit the last home run of the game for the Tribe, his 5th of the season.

The Positives

This series has been great for the Tribe in terms of run production for Cleveland pitchers. It was great to see the long ball going for the team tonight. David Murphy continues to put forth a solid season, which is important when the team has struggled this season.

The Negatives

The team had a great overall game tonight. One thing that was worth noted tonight however was Francisco Lindor‘s defense. Despite being known for his defense and having only a short sample of games at the MLB level, he already committed his third error of the season.

Check It Out

Tomorrow night at 7:10 PM, Cleveland is on the road in Tampa for their third game of the series. Carlos Carrasco gets the start for the Tribe. He has a 9-6 record and in his last start threw eight innings, giving up 5 hits in a win over Detroit. Tampa will have Alex Colome on the mound. He has a 3-3 record. In his last ten starts, Tampa only won one of his starts.
