Cleveland Indians Offense Answers the Call in Blowout Win

Tribe offense bangs out 19 hits in 17-4 clobbering of Twins

There have been more than a few games this season that four runs were enough to beat the Cleveland Indians. Tonight was not one of those nights. The Tribe collected 17 runs on 19 hits, including four hits from newly acquired Abraham Almonte en route to a 17-4 blowout of the Minnesota Twins. Trevor Bauer (9-8, 4.06) wasn’t sharp, but the offense did their part to bail a starter out for once.

The Indians (50-59) are a new look team with many new faces, and things are off to a good start. Jerry Sands hit a pinch-hit grand slam to go along with three RBIs from Jose Ramirez as the Indians did something they don’t alway do well. Score runs. Many names that were counted out or cast off are having a direct effect on this season now.

The night was short for Ervin Santana (2-3, 5.40) as he allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings. The Twins (55-55) continue to come down to earth after being the darlings of the Al Central early in the season. Joe Mauer, Kurt Suzuki and Eddie Rosario all homered for the Twins, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the Tribe’s onslaught.

The first six batters in the Tribe lineup all drove in a run as the Indians went 8-for-18 with runners in scoring position. One day after chasing Twins starter Mike Pelfrey after 3 2/3 innings, the Indians did it again driving Santana out before the end of the third.

After trading Michael Bourne and Nick Swisher, the Indians didn’t seem to miss a beat as Almonte stepped in with a big game after being acquired from the Padres. The Indians hope to keep up the fireworks as Corey Kluber takes the mound for the Indians, who has been poorly supported by the offense this season. He’ll face the twins right Phil Hughes in the finale of Sunday’s three-game set.
