A.M. Wahoo’s: Another Cleveland-Toronto Series in 2016

Just like the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors, the Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Blue Jays will meet up for a chance to earn a shot in the championship series.

It sure has been a weird year in Cleveland.

After decades of being seemingly cursed, the Cleveland Indians are seeking to become the city’s second champion in 2016 and end that painful, fourth-month long title drought.

Just like the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Indians have a seven-game series against a Toronto team with a berth in the championship round on the line. And with the newfound optimism in Cleveland thanks to the Cavs’ championship, it almost seems like the script of a long-awaited movie.

The similarities end at that though, as the Indians will face a much tougher matchup in the Blue Jays than the Cavs did in the Raptors. The Indians also don’t have a LeBron James-like player on the team, although Andrew Miller is about as dominant as they come.

The Indians did go 4-3 against the Blue Jays this year, which is a good omen for the upcoming seven-game series, but this Blue Jays team just rolled through the Texas Rangers. The Indians made quick work of the Boston Red Sox, so this is sure to be a much more competitive series than what was seen in either ALDS.

But to the average Cleveland sports fan, this series is part of the destiny that has always been set for 2016. The Cavaliers were just the beginning, and the Indians are set to end a title drought lasting since 1948. Then there is the Browns. They don’t exactly fit into the 2016 plans.

The period of time right after a series win, just like the time right before the postseason, is always filled with optimism. And with a championship in Cleveland, the optimism has a base to stand upon this year.
