Cleveland Indians reliever Boone Logan hit the disabled list a few weeks ago, and the latest update is that he is likely to miss the remainder of the year.

The Cleveland Indians had a rough start to the second half of the season in the Bay Area, and things got worse when Boone Logan went down clutching his arm. That was on July 19 in San Francisco.

He has been on the disabled list since then, and the latest update is that his 2017 season is likely over.

The injury is a lat strain, and it was clear when Logan went down clutching his arm in pain that things weren’t looking too good.

The Indians brought in Logan this offseason to be a lefty specialist, and while he wasn’t terrible, he was never the weapon some thought he may be.

More from Away Back Gone

He logged 21 innings in 38 appearances, allowing 11 earned runs on 20 hits. He struck out 28 batters and walked nine.

To be fair, five of those runs came in a July 2 outing, but Logan was still never a go-to option for Terry Francona compared to the big three of Bryan Shaw, Andrew Miller and Cody Allen.

Logan has a team option for next season, and his return may be contingent upon how this season ends. If the Indians win the World Series, the team may choose to go with some younger pitchers such as Tyler Olson as opposed to paying Logan the $7 million he is owed.

However, if the team falls short again and Logan gets healthy, he may be kept around with the hopes he returns to his old form.

Winning it all changes the plan, so his future in Cleveland likely won’t be known until October. With money needed to be set aside for core players, Logan may not fit into the plans moving forward.
