The Cleveland Indians won in dramatic fashion to pick up a 22nd consecutive victory in a game that fans will remember for a long time.

Cleveland Indians fans have been waiting for that signature win all year. Instead, the team has taken a different approach and entered Thursday night riding an unfathomable 21-game win streak.

But even though the win streak itself has been a wild ride, Thursday night’s game was the signature win to top all other signature wins in what has been and continues to be a historic run.

Francisco Lindor came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with his team down 2-1. Erik Gonzalez was standing on first after pinch-running for Francisco Mejia. Lindor was down to his final strike. Then…

Total bedlam.

Just look at the reaction from both the team and the fans, and perhaps think back to how you reacted last night. This is a regular season game for a team about to clinch their division, but it felt like much more than that.

And once the team tied the game, there was no way they were losing.

Jay Bruce‘s walk-off hit in the bottom of the tenth officially broke the 2017 Kansas City Royals, who are still in town for three more games in front of what will be some wild crowds at Progressive Field.

The game saw Tyler Naquin pick up a clutch hit, Greg Allen draw a key walk, Andrew Miller return to log a scoreless inning, Jose Ramirez leg out a double to pick up his 50th of the season and so much else.

It was a win that screenwriters dream about.

The only downside from the game was Lonnie Chisenhall leaving with tightness in the same calf that has bothered him all season, so hopefully we will get some good news on that front today. With the lead this team has in the division and the way everyone has been clicking during this streak, Chisenhall can get some rest if he needs it.

At this point I don’t even know what to say when it comes to the streak. Seeing Lindor pick up that game-tying double made it clear that this team is in the midst of such a special streak it will be hard to truly appreciate it until it is all over. Right now it is just pure insanity.

Some fans will say none of this matters if the team doesn’t win the World Series, but that is just false. You can still enjoy this streak and appreciate the history, while simultaneously understanding a title is the ultimate goal.

The magnitude of this streak will not be diminished if the team doesn’t win it all in October. We are all witnessing baseball history and even though a 22-game win streak isn’t the goal of the sport, there is no denying Indians fans are a lucky bunch.
