The Cleveland Indians made MLB history in 2017 and provided baseball fans with one of the best stories of the entire year.

It may be biased coming from a Clevelander, but the Cleveland Indians‘ 22-game win streak is easily the best story in baseball from 2017.

Not everyone around the country sees it that way, but it was a part of baseball history that may not happen again in our lifetimes, unless the Indians do it again in 2018.

Joshua Sadlock of FanSided published an article detailing the top 25 MLB stories of 2017, putting The Streak at No. 9 overall. The Houston Astros winning it all came in at No. 1.

From the article:

"From August 24 to September 14, the Cleveland Indians did a lot of things. One of the things they did not manage to do, however, was lose a game. That’s right, the Indians won 22 games in a row to set a modern record. Only the 1916 New York Giants had a longer winning streak, at 26 games."

To be fair, the Astros winning it all is clearly the top story from a national point of view. But me being an Indians fan, I know that the 22-game win streak is something that fans of all teams should appreciate for its history. The A’s had a movie made about their streak. Well, not entirely, but it was the climax of the film!

The problem with The Streak is that all the wins didn’t result in a World Series title. That doesn’t take away the feat, but it does mean the season wasn’t as special as it could have been. The Indians winning it all would have capped off arguably one of the greatest seasons in MLB history.

If a team like the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox rattled off 22 straight wins, the story might be romanticized a bit more..

Regardless, Sadlock’s entire list is an interesting one to go through, as it covers everything from The Streak to Derek Jeter gutting the Miami Marlins to everything else that made headlines in 2017.
