Cleveland Indians: Talking bold predictions in January

The Cleveland Indians are still over two months away from starting the regular season, but it is never too early to make some bold predictions.

This point in the offseason is always a slow one for the Cleveland Indians. A major move could change that, but I don’t see that happening.

Trades continue to be made but the Indians seem content to head into the season with the current group in town, along with Michael Martinez, and that is just fine.

But the slow news cycle means it is time for bold predictions, which we covered on the site yesterday.

Some fans may want others to slow the brakes on making bold predictions, but that is the whole fun of talking baseball. It may seem crazy to predict that Francisco Mejia will end up as the starter this season, but it remains a possibility.

My personal bold prediction was that the team will win 103 regular season games in 2018, and considering the slow start the team had en route to 102 wins in 2017, I barely even see the prediction as too outrageous. Obviously the 22-game win streak helped reach that total a season ago, so some consistent, winning baseball all season long should mean the team easily eclipses the 100-win mark.

Let’s just hope there aren’t any surprises within the division.

The cold weather is supposed to move out soon, so that’s some good news as Cleveland remains a tundra for now. The good news is that the days are getting longer and Indians baseball is about ten weeks away.
