The Cleveland Indians have had a rather slow offseason, but could make a big splash in January by making a trade for Christian Yelich.

While Cleveland Indians have been hoping for news this offseason, Miami Marlins fans have been hoping for the news to stop.

Derek Jeter took control of that franchise and has dismantled the core of the team in just a few months. But one player that still remains on the team is outfielder Christian Yelich.

However, that may not be for long.

It is clear that Yelich is upset with the way things have gone and it’s hard to blame him. He doesn’t want to stay, only to play well for a few months and ultimately be traded elsewhere. That likelihood increases considering he is under team control through 2022, which makes him a hot commodity in a trade.

The Marlins haven’t been swinging major deals for the players they have traded, but perhaps that will make the asking price higher for someone like Yelich.

Mike Hattery, an amazing writer covering the Indians for WFNY, tweeted out an interesting proposal.

Indians fans are notoriously afraid to give us prospects, but I would personally make this trade. The goal is to win a World Series title in the next few years, and Yelich can help do that. The other three may pan out as stars in the league, but Yelich has already proven himself.

Remember, the Indians tried to trade Francisco Mejia and Greg Allen for Jonathan Lucroy back in 2016. There is no reason why the team wouldn’t offer up a similar package for a younger talent like Yelich.

Indians fans aren’t the only ones thinking about Yelich

The hot stove may heat up again

Yelich being on the market could spice things up before Spring Training begins, but the Marlins don’t necessarily have to trade him.

But with the way Jeter has been running his new team, Yelich could be gone as soon as today.
