Cleveland Indians: 3 takeaways from sweeping shutout victory over Chicago White Sox

The Cleveland Indians looked to get out the brooms today as they faced Chicago in the finale. The offense came in hot and left even hotter along with Corey Kluber on the mound.

The Cleveland Indians looked to make it four wins in a row today in the finale. They got off to a hot start and never looked back. Oh, how sweep it is!

The team has an off day tomorrow so getting a win and getting to relax on a four game win streak would be very sweet. The offense scored 6 runs in each of the last two games and looked for more.

Here are some things that stood out today:

Kluber dominant again following off performance in last start

Corey Kluber had his consecutive batters without a walk streak snapped Friday night against Minnesota. His day was not great as he ended up being pulled after just five innings. Kluber gave up four runs and struck out just three in his worst outing of the season.

He bounced back with a vengeance today and Chicago, unfortunately for them, felt his wrath.

Kluber hurled seven innings of shutout, one-hit baseball on his way to a Major League leading 11th win of the year. He also struck out seven batters and walked one.

Kluber getting back to his dominant self is great to see after an off start last time out. As the ace of the staff, his resiliency can rub off on the rest of the arms.

Offense stays hot, scoring at will

The offense scored a combined 12 runs in the first two games of the three game series. They seemed to want to one up themselves today and they did just that.

The team as a whole slapped the White Sox pitchers all around the yard scoring 12 runs on 12 hits in an offensive explosion. The entire lineup was in on the act with everyone either tallying a run scored or getting an RBI. They continued to hit well with runners in scoring position this afternoon as well. The lineup tallied a 5-for-15 line with ducks on the pond.

Rajai Davis added a 2-out RBI for good measure. The lineup could be catching fire heading into the off-day and hopefully stays hot during the weekend set with Detroit.

Yan Gomes continues scorching hot month of June

Yan Gomes has been an offensive liability for the last few years, but something for him has clicked in 2018. He started hot this season but again slowed in May. However; June has been especially kind to him.

Gomes went 2-for-4 today with a walk and a run scored. His two hits were doubles high off the wall. He is now slashing .319/.407/.660 in June. 10 of his 15 hits have gone for extra bases to the tune of five doubles and three home runs. He has also knocked in 11 runs this month.

Seeing Gomes have success on offense is most definitely a sight for sore eyes in Cleveland. His defense has always been the reason for his play time, but has really struggled on offense outside his silver slugger season in 2014.

The offense has guys picking up everywhere at just the right time. This team is usually a second half team so to see them heating up gives hope that they will only continue to get better through the All-Star break and beyond.

The Indians have an off day tomorrow before Detroit comes to town for a three game weekend series. They ride a four game win streak and come off a sweep of the White Sox.

Look for the Indians to stay hot against Detroit who is second in the AL Central but trail by five games at the time of this recap. Miguel Cabrera is out for the season after getting surgery so he will not be there to torment the Tribe.
