Cleveland Indians: Star prospects represent Tribe in Triple-A All-Star Game

The Cleveland Indians will be well represented at this years’ Triple-A All-Star game. Both Francisco Mejia and Brandon Barnes highlight the roster as the game makes it’s way to Columbus this year.

As the MLB All-Star game approaches, it’s important not to forget that it’s not the only celebration of baseball going on around the country. The Cleveland Indians Triple-A affiliates, the Columbus Clippers, will be well represented in their own All-Star game.

The Triple-A All-Star game will be held on July 11th at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio. This is the home of the Indians Triple-A affiliates, the Columbus Clipper. That means the Clippers coaching staff will represent the International League roster in the game.

As for the players, two Tribe prospects made the cut to start in the game. Francisco Mejia and Brandon Barnes made the cut to start in this years ASG after they’ve both had remarkable seasons in Triple-A.

Francisco Mejia is well known as the Indians’ top prospect. He’s number 17-overall in the MLB’s top 100 prospect list. Mejia has impressed in Columbus this year and has been close to a MLB call-up. His slash line is .265/.313/.408 with an OPS of .721.

Mejia has been able to spread the ball around the field this year. He’s played both catcher and OF in his role with the Clippers.

As for Brandon Barnes, he’s been lights-out this year. Barnes lead the Clippers in virtually every batting stat. He is tops on the team in homers with at and is slugging .490. Barnes also has 21 walls and 24(!!) doubles for the Clippers.

If Shane Bieber or Adam Plutko were still in Triple-A they’d likely be represented in the game. The Pawtucket Red Sox, Charlotte Knights, and Louisville Bats all boast several players decorating the International League roster.

I’ve discussed prior that both of these Triple-A studs have a chance at being called up to the big leagues. It’s good to see them get their chance to shine at this year’s Triple-A ASG.
