Cleveland Indians: Recapping Sunday’s win over the Orioles

An impressive rebound for the Cleveland Indians led them to a 8-0 win and a series win over the Baltimore Orioles to conclude their home-stand.

Sundays are for the Sunshine in Cleveland. The Cleveland Indians came away with a big win on the back of pitcher Mike Clevinger‘s fantastic outing. The team picked apart the poor pitching from the O’s to win the day and make sure Cleveland enjoyed their Sunday Funday.

After a disappointing outing for the Indians on Saturday, the team came out hard and fast in today’s game. Scoring in the first inning has become a way of life for these Indians, and they came out and did it today thanks to Yandy Diaz #YandyHasBeenFreed.

Yandy’s day consisted of a walk, a hit, and two RBI’s. He’s looking to cement his place on this Indians roster, and he’s certainly doing all he can. In fact, much of today’s scoring featured guys who have come up from Triple-A recently.

Greg Allen had a great day in the leadoff spot with two hits and a HBP that he would eventually score on. Melky Cabrera also hit the lone home-run in the game with a booming grand slam in the fourth inning.

The Indians ended up with 10 hits and six walks off of Baltimore pitching, but the Indians pitching was lights-out. Mike Clevinger struck out seven through six innings and while he allowed six hits, he didn’t let the O’s score. The shutout was held in-tact thanks to individual innings from Andrew Miller, Dan Otero, and Adam Cimber.

This Tribe bullpen has been open a tear recently. They’ll need that to continue as they face their biggest challenge of the year this week. The Tribe bullpen now has a 2.65 ERA in the last month. That’s pretty good considering how poorly the group started the year.

Things won’t be easy for the Tribe this week. They’ll face the best team in baseball, the Boston Red Sox on their own turf at Fenway Park. This will be a big test for everyone on the Tribe roster, and it’ll show just where they stand against the World Series contenders.
