Cleveland Indians complete the sweep and gain ground

The Cleveland Indians took care of business out west and most importantly didn’t lose any ground in both American League postseason races.

The Cleveland Indians decided to play some of their best baseball when a large majority of the fanbase was likely asleep.

That is what DVR is for.

The Indians swept the Los Angeles Angels in what sounded like an Indians home series at times. The closest game of all came last night when Adam Cimber came in for the save and our own Carson Ferrell nearly had a heart attack.

The score was 4-3 and Cimber was the sixth member of the bullpen to appear on the night. Terry Francona managed it like a must-win game and the bullpen came through. Cimber got the one-out save and Carlos Carrasco got the win. Not a bad way to cap off a quick trip to Disneyland.

The Angels are not a contender but the Indians are and the sweep was a big deal. The Indians are now only four games back of the Minnesota Twins. A Twins loss today would mean the Indians enter the crucial weekend series only 3.5 games behind a Twins team that thought it had the division locked up at several points throughout the season.

The Wild Card race is still tight as well as the Oakland A’s are only .5 games ahead of the Indians. That could become a tie with an A’s loss to the Houston Astros tonight. Meanwhile the Tampa Bay Rays are only one game ahead of the Indians and play tonight against the Texas Rangers.

So Indians fans can get those cowboy hats on and root for the entire state of Texas tonight.

This is a nice change of pace after some frustrating sweeps and bullpen collapses during the past month. The bullpen finally bounced back last night and Carrasco showed that he can indeed be relied on as a key bullpen arm.

Carrasco being an early-inning high-leverage arm would be a huge gain for the Indians if Brad Hand is dealing with some mysterious injury. More on that later today.

The best part about a sweep like this is that there isn’t all that much to say. It was all positive and the Indians finally did what they were supposed to do without giving fans intense gastrointestinal pain.

Now we can all have a nice day off before the stress of watching the biggest series of the season.
